In that moment…

Back in 2022, my middle daughter, Bella, said “Mum you should make these!”

She thrust her phone towards me and I could see the most beautiful flowers in a bouquet on her screen. I was stunned. Firstly, because they looked real and I thought they were made from fondant or sugar paste (not my bag!) And secondly, because where in her crazy mind did she think I could possibly make those? She must be joking.

“Don’t be ridiculous! I could never make those” was my blunt reply. I was really irritated that she would suggest me making something so intricate and detailed. She laughed and made some more tea.

When she had gone home, I looked at these flowers of hers again. They were on Instagram and the woman who made them was speaking to the camera saying, “Anyone can make these, YOU can make these!”

In that moment I thought “if you are saying I can, then yes I can!”

Two weeks later, with a tutorial on my screen, some buttercream in a piping bag and petal tip at the ready, I piped the first petal. The sensation that followed will be etched in my mind for ever. It was a physical response which filled me with total joy and all I could think was “I’m home”. And that was the start of my cupcake bouquet journey. There was no going back.

I hope your piping journey is memorable, I would love to hear about it.

This week I have been celebrating my youngest sister’s birthday with all of my siblings. There are 6 of us! Here is the link to the 37 dome bouquet I made for her. It had to be white and pinks mostly, with a bit of wriggle room for artistic freedom!

I love it when that happens.

Happy piping

Anne

If you are wondering who the woman telling me I could do it was, it was the very talented and empowering Jane Taylor. I have a LOT to thank her for. Check out her work here
